چکیده

Relationship acquisition has always contributed as an important enhancement to Natural Language Processing. Using “definition extraction” methods proved to be a very useful approach, not only for relationship extraction but also for enhancing the limited coverage of words in WordNet. It also played a major role in developing question answer systems and ontology learning for unrestricted data. Various epistemologies developed for the later but it was noticed that many among the developed approaches suffered from low precision and low recall, especially the ones which were based on lexico syntactic patterns. This paper presents a comparative study of two different approaches used for Hypernym-Hyponym discovery. We start with analyzing the Pattern matching approach based on the Hearst Pattern and then compare it with LEILA which uses link grammar parser and deep syntactic analysis for relationship acquisition. Keywords— Hypernym, LEILA, Pattern Matching, Hearst Pattern, lexico-syntactic pattern

Automatic Extraction of Turkish Hypernym-Hyponym Pairs From Large Corpus

In this paper, we propose a fully automatic system for acquisition of hypernym/hyponymy relations from large corpus in Turkish Language. The method relies on both lexico-syntactic pattern and semantic similarity. Once the model has extracted the seeds by using patterns, it applies similarity based expansion in order to increase recall. For the expansion, several scoring functions within a boots...

In AAAI-09 Spring Symposium on Learning by Reading and Learning to Read Learning and Evaluating the Content and Structure of a Term Taxonomy

In this paper, we describe a weakly supervised bootstraping algorithm that reads Web texts and learns taxonomy terms. The bootstrapping algorithm starts with two seed words (a seed hypernym (Root concept) and a seed hyponym) that are inserted into a doubly anchored hyponym pattern. In alternating rounds, the algorithm learns new hyponym terms and new hypernym terms that are subordinate to the R...

On the Transitivity of Hypernym-Hyponym Relations in Data-Driven Lexical Taxonomies

Taxonomy is indispensable in understanding natural language. A variety of large scale, usage-based, data-driven lexical taxonomies have been constructed in recent years. Hypernym-hyponym relationship, which is considered as the backbone of lexical taxonomies can not only be used to categorize the data but also enables generalization. In particular, we focus on one of the most prominent properti...

A semantic priming approach

This study investigates the depth of lexical knowledge in first language (L1) speakers and second language (L2) learners in reference to hierarchical word knowledge. Eighty-eight participants took part in a lexical decision task that assessed their speed and accuracy in recognizing words and nonwords. Prime and target pairs in the lexical decision task were related words (hyponynm to hypernym a...
